Editorial guidance on AI-assisted content

Learning News permits AI-assisted drafting, but published content must be insight-led and shaped by substantial human editorial judgement. Articles are held to a higher editorial threshold than news, particularly where AI tools are used. Please review the guidance below before submitting.

Learning News recognises that generative AI tools are now widely used to support content creation. Used well, they can assist with drafting, structure and clarity.

As AI-generated content becomes more common, editorial publications must protect originality, judgement and reader value. This guidance clarifies how AI-assisted content is handled on Learning News.

News and articles are treated differently

  • News submissions are assessed primarily on accuracy, originality, timeliness and news value. AI may be used as a drafting aid, but all facts, claims and sources must be verified. News submissions must clearly relate to something materially new, changed or significant and demonstrate genuine relevance or potential interest beyond the submitting organisation itself.
  • Articles (including insight, opinion, research and thought leadership) are subject to a higher editorial threshold. Because articles are more vulnerable to generic or formulaic AI output, they must clearly demonstrate human editorial judgement.

What this means in practice for articles

We are asking contributors to ensure that thinking, judgement and editorial responsibility remain human-led. AI may be used to assist drafting or editing, but articles must be shaped by substantial human editorial judgement. They should have a clearly defined point of view, perspective or insight, original insight drawn from experience, research or practice, practitioner expertise or operational experience, and they should be supported by evidence-based analysis or interpretation and concrete examples, case studies or observed outcomes.

Articles that are largely generic, descriptive or formulaic, including content that restates widely known ideas without adding perspective, insight or analysis, are unlikely to be accepted.

All submissions are published at the discretion of Learning News. For further information please refer to the full submissions policy
