The Future of Work on the Digital Arena
MERIT Summit Speaker Catalina Schveninger, Global Head of Learning at Vodafone, discusses the future of work from the perspective of the global telecommunications company.
What is the future of work and how is the digital arena shaking up the traditional pillars of the workforce?
In this video, MERIT Summit Speaker Catalina Schveninger, Global Head of Learning at Vodafone, discusses the topic from the perspective of the global telecommunications company. As the world is just starting to learn how to deal with the skills gap, companies are experimenting with new tools and upskilling techniques. Why is this necessary?
In Europe alone, there will be 800,000 unfulfilled jobs by 2020. Sectors such as IT, digital marketing, and even industries with a longer history such as social sciences, are experiencing this phenomenon. As a result, traditional companies and entire sectors such as telecommunications and FMCG are in the process of transforming and upskilling their workforce.
The truth is that amidst this workforce disruption, nobody has the answer for what the future of work should look like. There are new skills and new jobs coming up in the digital world every day. Technology plays a big role in this trend.
According to Catalina, while many people are scared that new technologies such as AI will take a lot of the jobs we currently occupy, in fact, technologies also create new roles. So, there are a lot of opportunities that people never thought could exist in the workforce.
As long as companies manage to create a corporate culture of continuous learning, they will also be able to adapt and grow continuously. While the workforce has never been so multi-generational, for the companies who aim to reach out to young professionals today, one of the ways is to present digital or mobile-first learning opportunities. Future will tell whether we are on the right track.
