First of its kind Sexual Health eLearning programme for people with learning disabilities wins international eLearning Award
eLearning Company Aurion Learning in partnership with their client, the Family Planning Association (FPA), triumphed at the international E-Learning Awards held at the Park Lane Hotel in London's Mayfair on 12 November 2009.
eLearning Company Aurion Learning and their client, the Family Planning Association (FPA), scooped a prestigious eLearning Age Award for their work on the design and development of a groundbreaking sexual health and well-being eLearning programme designed for people with learning disabilities.
The who's who of e-learning gathered to celebrate the sheer breadth and quality of the best in the industry and with entries received from a total of 152 organisations across Europe the 15 award categories produced a record 35 winners.
Winning under the category 'Excellence in the production of learning content' Aurion and the FPA's 'All about us' is an interactive educational resource designed to teach people with learning disabilities about sexual health and relationships.
Dr Maureen Murphy, Managing Director at Aurion Learning commented "We are delighted to have won this Award particularly in light of the high standard this year which in our category included entries from some of the best in the industry"
The underlying need for the programme came about as a result of a joint three year research project between the Family Planning Association in Northern Ireland in partnership with the School of Nursing at University of Ulster into the sexual health and well-being of people with learning disabilities.
As a result of the research the FPA commissioned Aurion Learning to develop an interactive educational learning resource to help support people with learning disabilities on key issues relating to sexual health.
Commenting on the resource and the Award, Dr Audrey Simpson OBE, Director of FPA in Northern Ireland said: "We believe this is the first resource of its kind in the world and the team are absolutely ecstatic to have won the Award in recognition for what was a very challenging project" said Audrey "All about us is already proving to become an invaluable educational tool which will empower people with learning disabilities, their parents and professionals working with them to discover the facts about sex and relationships."
