We all have a role to play in understanding what good cyber resilience looks like in reducing our economic and national vulnerabilities
A statement from AXELOS in response to President Obama’s State of the Union Address on 20 January 2015.
President Obama said in his State of the Union Address: “... I urge this Congress to finally pass the legislation we need to better meet the evolving threat of cyber-attacks, combat identity theft, and protect our children's information. If we don't act, we'll leave our nation and our economy vulnerable. If we do, we can continue to protect the technologies that have unleashed untold opportunities for people around the globe.”
Our globally connected world delivers a wealth of opportunities for economic growth and innovation but it also brings with it the real risk of cyber-attack. Many organizations are planning for or managing the impacts of these attacks such as damaged market reputation, financial loss and regulatory fines.
We must define what good cyber resilience looks like to reduce our economic and national vulnerabilities. Companies which use proven operations management practices can manage their cyber risks effectively and deliver new competitive advantage. For organizations to harnessthis opportunity they must use a holistic approach that encompasses people, process and technology.
The focus must be on aligning strategic priorities, service management tools, operational systems and architectures with ongoing training and involvement of people across the organization. This enterprise approach is not new but applying basic disciplines enable organizations to tackle their cyber risks and challenges with renewed confidence.
Chris Barrett, COO at AXELOS, said: “We welcome the announcement made by President Obama in his State of the Union Address. Many organizations strive to understand what good cyber resilience looks like. It begins with an integrated set of decision support and operational frameworks.
“Our existing best practice portfolio, including IT Service Management enabled by ITIL and our Project and Program Management frameworks that includes PRINCE2, are in use by thousands of organizations around the world to effectively manage their operations and to build business value. The launch of the AXELOS Cyber Resilience best practice portfolio in June this year will further enable organizations to build on these existing operational practices and to effectively tackle the challenges brought by ever increasing cyber risks.”
