Helping charities save time and money with eLearning
With increased demand for charity services and L&D budgets under pressure, it’s never been more important for charities to make the most of learning and development. A seminar on 1 October with the Charity Learning Consortium will show how collaborating to embed eLearning can help third sector organisations save time and money, reaching more learners and boosting overall productivity.
A free seminar - at the NCVO headquarters in London in October - is open to all third sector organisations who want to do ‘more for less’ with their L&D budgets. Delegates will get the chance to hear more about the Charity Learning Consortium (CLC), which currently helps some 125 organisations save time and money*.
Members of the Consortium come from a variety of charities, not for profits, housing associations and voluntary sector organisations. They come together to share the cost of eLearning, and network to exchange best practice and expertise.
Stella O'Neill, L&D Special Projects Manager at the charity CRI will be presenting at the event. She’ll be talking about how eLearning is used within CRI, and how the Consortium inspires her to make the most effective use of learning technologies, in order to get a good return on investment.
“I think the Charity Learning Consortium is excellent value for money,” said Stella. “Not only do you get a whole suite of eLearning courses – more than you could afford to pay for out of your learning and development budget – it’s the support as well that you get. If you have any problems, there’s a team of people that you can go to.
“I find the members meetings and member support invaluable... There’s a sense of community, you get to interact with other charities that are having the same problems that you’re having in the eLearning World.”
Delegates will discover all the benefits of joining the Consortium, which includes a flexible learning management system and access to a huge variety of editable courseware, including a complimentary authoring tool.
The Consortium helps members make the most of the eLearning on offer, as well as providing regular seminars and workshops, online training and an annual conference with world class speakers.
This unique collaborative approach means that cost effective, quality eLearning is on offer to more than 500,000 staff and volunteers across the third sector in the UK – engaging staff that other learning & development simply doesn’t reach.
Delegates can book their place online at www.charitylearning.org/seminar-october-2014 or by email events@charitylearning.org.

Notes for editors
* Independent research by Towards Maturity shows that CLC members reduced their learning costs by 42% in 2012-13, through the use of eLearning, compared to a 21% cost reduction amongst non-members. CLC members were also far more likely to report that eLearning had helped reduce the time it took for staff to reach skills competency: 42%, compared to 26% of non-members. While 28% of CLC members saw an improvement in organisational productivity from using learning technologies, compared to 10% of non-members. These statistics are taken from a Towards Maturity benchmark sample in 2012-13, comparing 50 CLC members with 50 non-members.
