CompTIA honors excellence in IT training at Strategies event in New Orleans
CompTIA presented three Awards of Excellence in IT training at the CompTIA Strategies conference in New Orleans, June 10. CompTIA Strategies is part of a unique process in North America that engages leaders in IT training including commercial training providers, corporate training managers, high school and post-secondary IT instructors and representatives from government and not-for-profit organizations.
The awards were sponsored this year by Pearson Education, a leading educational publisher, and presented at the culmination of the event to Edison Job Corps, Global Mentoring Solutions and Waukesha County Technical College in the corresponding categories: Unique Partnerships, Outstanding Products and Services, and Exceptional Student Support.
"The continued growth and evolution of the IT training industry is dependent upon leaders who provide excellence in the field," according to William Vanderbilt, director of the CompTIA Technology Learning Group. "These winners all took creative approaches to solving problems and providing opportunities for their businesses and training candidates, demonstrating best practices and setting examples of leadership. Congratulations to all on a job well done and for furthering the entire IT training community."
Edison Job Corps of Edison, New Jersey, won the Unique Partnership Award for their industry partnership program. The program worked with private business sponsors to provide internship opportunities for students and ensure training meets job requirements. By increasing employer input at all stages of training, Edison Job Corps improved job placement, job stability and higher wages for their students.
Global Mentoring Solutions in Columbia, Maryland, won the award for Outstanding Products and Services for their Real-Time MentoringTM program. Real-Time Mentoring uses web-based support classrooms to provide an interactive learning environment for live exchange between students and certified instructors. This product gives students access to instructors 24 hours a day, reducing interruption in study.
Mark Krzyszkowski and Waukesha County Technical College in Wisconsin won the award for Exceptional Student Support. Krzyszkowski has worked to implement CompTIA certification exams into the Waukesha County Technical College Advanced Technical Certificate program. He spends time outside of school hours helping his students with homework and career planning, passing along job contacts and assisting students with resume writing.
