Why are so many ‘green circles’ appearing on L&D professionals LinkedIn profiles?

The number of learning and development professionals looking for work in the UK has risen sharply in 2025, with signs of growing pressure on vacancies, funding and job security across the sector.

New analysis by L&D recruiter Blue Eskimo combines data from the ONS, CIPD, PwC and others with insights from its own L&D recruitment activity and it's used AI to model what’s really happening behind the scenes.

  • In the three months to August 31st the redundancy rate in UK L&D was 0.6%, twice the national average of 0.3%;
  • Over 2,500 UK L&D professionals were out of work chasing around 1,000 vacancies, from a total UK corporate L&D workforce of around 40,000.

Nick Jones from Blue Eskimo joins Learning News to discuss the findings.
