Global Knowledge and Cisco raise £5,600 for Comic Relief 2009
Global Knowledge teamed up with their longstanding training vendor Cisco to host a charity golf day at the world famous Wentworth Golf Club in Surrey.
There were 34 golfers that took part on the day, which started off with tea, coffee and bacon rolls with the first 4 ball teeing off at 9.20am on the delightful East Course that proved to be very challenging yet a joy to play for all involved. Thankfully the weather was bright and sunny, with the rain holding off until the last 4 ball returned to the clubhouse.
The Golf day was based upon a Ryder Cup format with Cisco taking up the US colours of Red and Global Knowledge the blue of Europe. Both teams were striving to win the very first Global Knowledge Cisco Annual Ryder Cup trophy to take back to their head office. There were also awards for the best individual performance, nearest the pin and longest drive.
After battling it out on the golf course Cisco ended up with the team glory and the bragging rights beating Global Knowledge 6 ½ to 3 ½, but it was closer than this score suggests with two of the games being decided on the final hole. Congratulations to Cisco.
"The day was a great success; we managed to raise a lot of money for a great charity, which will go a long way to change a lot of lives. All enjoyed a good round of golf and also had a chance to catch up with customers and partners alike. I would like to thank Cisco for helping us put the event together and we will run the event next year, raising money for Sports Relief 2010" said Richard Pryor-Jones, President EMEA at Global Knowledge.
After golf everyone sat down in the Ryder Cup room at Wentworth for a fantastic three course meal where we also conducted our charity auction, which was hosted by the legendary Mr Sam Torrance.
The auction lots included some fantastic prizes such as Madonna and Michael Jackson tickets, a Jaguar XKR for a week, signed Manchester United Football, a signed Steven Gerrard photo, a villa in Cyprus for a week and a signed golf club from Sam himself to name but a few.
The event raised over £5600 for Comic Relief helping to transform lives, both at home in the UK and across Africa. Following on from this year's success Global Knowledge and Cisco will be looking to hold this as an annual event to help raise money for this great cause.
