Learning Technologies Barcamp returns: Informal, insightful conversations on the future of skills
The tenth edition of the informal fringe event will look at skills from a variety of different perspectives.
The Learning Technologies barcamp returns for its tenth year, bringing together learning professionals to discuss one of the hottest topics in L&D: skills.
Hosted just ten minutes from the main conference venue, this free fringe event promises practical insights from learning leaders and an informal setting where learning professionals can debate, challenge and connect.
“This year’s theme couldn’t be more relevant,” said Martin Couzins, barcamp organiser and founder of Insights Media. “We know organisations are under pressure to upskill and reskill quickly. That’s why we’ve brought together our expert speakers to share how we can do this well - and at scale.”
The format is fast and informal. Each speaker will host a short roundtable conversation—rotating tables every 10–15 minutes until all groups have met every speaker. And thanks to event sponsor Skillable, attendees will be provided with a drink or two.

The speaker line-up includes:

- Dr Nigel Paine – broadcaster and learning culture expert, on balancing skills between people and performance
- Jackie Barefield – learning leader, on the complexities of setting-up and managing development at a skills level in large organisations
- Marnie Threapleton, Skillable, on how to build and validate real-world skills that drive business growth
Barcamp 2025: Skills, skills, skills, takes place on Wednesday 23 April 2025, 18.00 to 19.30 near London’s ExCeL.
