Learning Barracuda Bowl Announced for Elliott Masie’s Learning 2016
Learning start-ups to be featured in the Barracuda Bowl at Learning 2016, to be held at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort October 23-26, 2016.
We live in an exciting time of cool and disruptive inventions, apps, and technologies being created in “garages” and “incubators”. Put together a few bright, excited, and inventive colleagues and they can create new products, services, or apps that will shake the learning world.
The MASIE Center has teamed up with USC's Rossier School of Education, a top tier school of education with a long track record of ground-breaking innovation, and StartED, a new initiative that works with entrepreneurs, investors, and universities to catalyze education innovation, to create the Learning Barracuda Bowl at Learning 2016! Here, the Barracuda Bowl will virtually bring many of these learning start-ups to a room with attendees to learn, challenge, and react in a “Shark Tank” model of feedback.
“There is a significant opportunity for EdTech start-ups in the corporate learning space. At Learning 2016, we will showcase several of the most cutting edge innovators as part of our Barracuda Bowl,” said Elliott Masie, Host & Curator of Learning 2016.
The world of work is the country's largest learning environment and yet it has seen little of the innovations that have caused both excitement and controversy in K-12 and higher education. According to Doug Lynch, PhD, faculty member at USC’s Rossier School of Education, “The Barracuda Bowl will be the perfect way to bring together the world of workplace learning and the multitude of startups in the K-12 and Higher Education Space. It will blow up the silos between each of the segments of learning and look to stretch technologies that could be adapted for workplace performance and improvement.”
The goal of the Learning Barracuda Bowl is to bring new and agile technology innovations into the world of corporate and workplace learning. The Barracuda Bowl will take the concept of the "Shark Tank" TV show and apply it to the world of learning. Many early stage Learning start-ups or ventures, largely incubated at universities, will be invited to give a 5- to 6-minute video pitch to groups of Learning 2016 participants for a Thumbs Up (or Thumbs Down). The feedback will be direct, harsh, and bring the edge of learning-focused barracudas to the emerging world of learning technology!
The Barracuda Bowl is now accepting submissions from companies meeting these criteria:
- Company must be less than 3 years old
- Company must not have in excess of $1M in revenue since its inception
- Company has not yet completed Series A round of funding
