The Golden Ticket: Why Adaptability Should be Top of your Skills Agenda

Learning NewsSummit Events

This month’s edition of Summit Solutions explores the power of adaptability—a skill that’s become essential for navigating the fast-changing world of work. As organisations face ongoing shifts in technology, work culture, and employee expectations, the ability to respond to change with confidence and creativity has never been more valuable. In partnership with Video Arts, we explore how leaders can build adaptability into their mindset, their teams, and their learning strategies.

In an era defined by rapid technological advancements, shifting global dynamics, and evolving workplace expectations, adaptability has emerged as a cornerstone of effective leadership in 2025. Leaders are no longer simply expected to guide with experience and authority; they must also navigate uncertainty, embrace change, and inspire resilience within their teams (not asking for much are we…).

As businesses grapple with everything from AI integration to remote work challenges, the ability to pivot strategies, adopt new mindsets, and respond to unforeseen disruptions is not just a competitive advantage - it’s a necessity.

With over 50 years in L&D, it’s safe to say Video Arts have been around the block a few times when it comes to helping organisations adapt to changing work environments. Read on for a few of our top tips for developing more adaptable leaders in 2025…

Talk more

Sure, state the obvious much? But in all seriousness, sharing your challenges and asking others about theirs is the first step in being more adaptable. Understanding what is working and not working for you right now will help you plan and prepare better for the future, all the while opening you up to new ideas and strategies that could be beneficial to you in the long run.

Listen and read more

We know extra-curricular reading isn’t exactly everyone’s idea of fun, but dedicating even an hour a week to reading up on the latest trends, technological developments, and even product launches can help leaders build and retain knowledge of what’s going on in their industry. And it’s not just limited to reading – it might seem obvious again, but simply listening more actively to colleagues when they share what media they’ve been consuming can often lead to nuggets of wisdom and information you never knew you needed.

Prioritise wellbeing

People perform best when they’re feeling their best. Remaining calm under pressure is no easy thing to do, neither is thinking fast, acting quickly or (hopefully) making the right decisions for the business. However, these skills are made even harder when we’re not working in an environment that helps us feel valued, supported and, above all, psychologically safe. So, ensuring employee wellbeing is an integral part of your L&D strategy in 2025 is, frankly, a no brainer.

To conclude

Ultimately, adaptability is more than just a skill; it’s a mindset, one of continual learning. Being able to change rapidly when needed, remain calm and still make informed decisions relies on leaders adopting the attitude that learning needs to be a constant and core part of business as usual. And if you take any one thing away from this article, let it be this: curiosity is key. The best way to learn and adapt is by asking questions, remaining open to feedback and welcoming new ideas.
