For many years Virtual College has supplied individual online courses, such as Food Hygiene, to the YHA to satisfy the YHA’s strong belief in staff training. Indeed YHA Team Worker, Mark Evans was recognised as Virtual College’s 600,000th learner in 2011.

The introduction of a Learning Management System means that processes can be streamlined and training allocated to all members of staff, new and old, who work within the hostels and administration departments. Mandatory training such as Fire Safety, Equality and Diversity, and Food Hygiene will be available to staff through the system, meaning that training can be immediate and consistent. A key feature of the new system is the ability it provides to the YHA to track the progress of their learners throughout the UK.

With over 1,200 staff working across the UK, the YHA is a long established institution with a history of innovation, helping it to stay contemporary and address the needs of thousands every year with its involvement in various festivals and outdoor activities; the charity firmly believes in the value of a highly trained workforce.

“The YHA is known around the world; many of our staff have benefitted from their services over the years, and we are big fans of the work they do and opportunities they offer to people of all ages” said Virtual College Marketing Manager Peter Hilliard. He continued “Knowing that we can help them continue to deliver quality training, while freeing up resources for other areas of the charity makes us very proud as a company”.
