Virtual College enables Jarvis Training Management to benefit from online apprentice screening solution
Getting the right apprentices into the most appropriate apprenticeships is a major issue for many colleges and training providers.
Sifting through CVs can generate huge amounts of paperwork and administration. Then, if the wrong candidate is selected and does not complete the apprenticeship, it is not only painful for the apprentice and employer, it has a disastrous impact on timely achievement rates and finances.
Jarvis Training Management has opted for an online pre-recruitment and assessment tool from the Virtual College’s Apprenticeship e-Academy to help address these issues.
“Typically, we have 20 apprenticeship vacancies each month generating over 400 applications,” explained Tom Sumnall, who heads up recruitment at Jarvis Training Management.
“Just filtering so much paperwork was a wasteful drain on resources. “
The Apprenticeship e-Academy’s system has one simple online point of entry for the apprentice applicant. In addition to capturing the applicant’s details electronically, initial questions are asked to ensure the candidate is eligible and suitable for consideration.
Liam Prendergast, commercial manager of the Apprenticeship e-Academy, explained:” These filtered candidates then proceed through a number of online profiling questions, generating a series of radar charts, which provide a valuable insight into their suitability.”
“We now know a huge amount about the candidate from day one,” said Tom Sumnall.
“It is easy to sort and filter candidates, say by age or location, with pertinent information captured and instantly available.”
“This allows us to get to the point of interview much more quickly. “
