Four keynote speeches will frame a conference renowned for delivering real-world insights and pragmatic advice to L&D professionals.

On 15 and 16 October at Birmingham’s NEC, the World of Learning Conference will deliver a carefully curated programme of presentations and case studies to delegates with senior-level responsibility for the learning and development of their workforces.

Highly accomplished in their lines of work, the keynote speakers will offer inspiration and share knowledge on the core theme of the conference – that of change.

Tom Cheesewright is an Applied Futurist who works with people and organisations around the world to see the future more clearly and to respond with innovation. He will open the two-day event with his keynote: ‘L&D 2030 – surviving a high frequency change environment.’ Tom comments:

“Driven by a combination of globalisation and the lowering of friction in life and business (that technology has provided), there is this phenomenon of high frequency change.

“This combines with a shift in focus from people as to where they find reward in life and work - there is a realisation that what is more rewarding is what we do, not what we acquire.

“This creates is an exciting opportunity for L&D to embrace the changes people are seeing and making in the workplace, and I look forward to examining how this can be done in my talk.”

With the mission to transform the way Bucks New University is working, is their HR Director, Alexandra Bode-Tunji, and she will present the closing keynote on day one of the conference.

Drawing on her experience in a previous role leading a change team at Transport for London (TfL), Alexandra will present: ‘From manager to change leader – a case study of an award-winning transformation programme from TfL.’
Bringing insights from big business will be Rachel Hutchinson, Director of Learning and Development at the multi-national firm, Hilti.

A Liechtenstein-based company that manufactures and sells products, services, and software to the construction industry, Hilti employs nearly 30,000 employees operating in 34 languages across 120 countries.

The company has been on a journey to ‘stop teaching and start learning,’ moving from a traditional instructor-led approach to a co-created collaborative approach. Hilti has seen a strong business impact through these changes and Rachel will cover this in her keynote talk on day two, which is entitled: 'How organisations are making learning technologies work today.’ Rachel comments:

“Technology has opened so many doors for us in learning. We have to stay focused on ensuring that we do not get distracted by technology but that we strive to create quality learning experiences that have an impact on people’s development and on the organisation’s ability to achieve their goals.

“By sharing our stories, we can learn from each other and stay focused on the critical business needs even through the mass of information available to us on all fronts.”

Robin Hoyle has spent three decades as a strategic L&D leader, trainer, conference speaker and consultant. He’s also author of Informal Learning in Organizations and Complete Training.

As the final keynote speaker of the conference, Robin will present ‘What resources and cultural changes are needed to create a collaborative organisation?’ He’ll examine the definition and significance of a collaborative organisation, as well as show how to build a self-sustaining learning culture.

Robin will also chair the two-day conference, and he comments:

“We in L&D are being challenged more than ever to support our workforces to perform and succeed in rapidly changing environments. This conference is an ideal opportunity for us to learn from L&D specialists who are solving the same problems we face and getting the results we seek.”

The highly respected World of Learning Conference sits alongside the exhibition which showcases more than 100 L&D providers and includes a range of interactive areas where visitors can receive hands-on, practical advice.
