Learning technology provider 5app has today announced the launch of its new AI skills intelligence solution, Helix.

Helix empowers learners with valuable information about the skills they’re using, directly within the flow of work. It targets the typically hard-to-measure soft skills like communication, coaching and accountability, helping to surface job-critical skills without relying on subjective self-assessments or one-off quizzes.

The skills intelligence solution works by joining meetings (such as Google Meet, Zoom or Microsoft Teams) and analysing transcripts and using artificial intelligence to identify the skills demonstrated by Helix users.

Users then receive a summary via email with an overview of strengths, growth areas and overall performance, with recommendations for improving the use of soft skills over time. The user can then access their own skills data in a personalised dashboard, while admins can access aggregated skills data to identify the overall effectiveness of learning and development in the organisation.

“From my interviews with 100+ L&D leaders, I found that learning teams struggle immensely with tracking and measuring those all-important soft skills,” said Philip Huthwaite, CEO of 5app. “5app is pioneering the move towards AI skills intelligence, and Helix is perfectly positioned to surface and make sense of the soft skills data that already exists within our day-to-day work. It’s clear that this is exactly what learning teams need right now, and I couldn’t be more proud to be the first to bring this solution to the market.”

Helix can be used as a standalone product, or used seamlessly with the existing 5app LMS, alongside the VeeCoach AI tutor agent, supporting identified growth opportunities with targeted learning content and coaching interventions.

“Helix marks an exciting leap forward for 5app,” said Rob Mackenzie, Head of Technology at 5app. “Focusing on ‘what’s easy to measure’ just doesn’t cut it anymore, and L&D teams have been crying out for a way to get more value from their data. Helix harnesses the power of AI and 5app’s proprietary 3Q Engine to not just dig deeper into real-time job performance, but also to uncover the ROI of learning initiatives, all from one intuitive tool.”

The Helix early access programme is now open to L&D teams looking to get more from their learning and skills training, and you can find Learning News’ Helix launch interview with Philip Huthwaite here.
