"Horrifying" lapses in data security highlight the critical nature of Payment Card Industry DSS
No less an influential figure than the UK government's information commissioner, Richard Thomas, has stated that, "The roll call of banks, retailers, government departments, public bodies and other organisations which have admitted serious security lapses is frankly horrifying".
In an unprecedentedly blunt message, addressed specifically towards senior management, Thomas drove home the message that data security is a critical concern and urged them "to be sure you are not the business or political leader who failed to take information rights seriously".
Thomas's comments co-incide with Visa revealing their latest figures on Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) compliance. These statistics suggest a steady increase in organisations that are implementing the profound anti security threat recommendations of the standard. Eduardo Perez, Vice President of payment system risk at Visa U.S.A. said "Much of the adoption has been driven by fear on the part of merchants that they could become the next major victims of a data breach".
In response to increasing demand, UK Information Security company 7Safe has developed the PCI Fundamentals training course - designed to give attendees the knowledge and confidence to make informed decisions on the key aspects of the standard.
It is an ideal course for organisations that are not yet PCI DSS compliant, but who take their data security responsibilities seriously and would like to know how to proceed swiftly and effectively with their own compliance programmes.
7Safe is one of only a handful of UK companies that have been awarded Qualified Security Assessor status by the PCI Security Standards Council, and they also have a proven heritage in all relevant aspects of Information Security consulting, auditing and education.
The next PCI Fundamentals course will take place on the 5th September 2007 at 7Safe's state-of-the-art training facility in Cambridge.
