Are you up to the Challenge?
National technical training specialist Develop is gearing up to host the Rutland Challenge in September 2006. Situated on the northern shores of Rutland Water, the company's Whitwell Hotel and Conference Centre is also a specialist water industry skills training centre and lends itself perfectly to the event.
The Challenge was instigated by the Institute of Water Officers (IWO) in 2003 as a way of bringing together colleagues in the water industry for a day of fun and raising money for WaterAid at the same time. Develop has been involved with the challenge since its inception, but in 2005 for the first time, became joint main sponsors alongside the IWO. This enabled the Rutland Challenge to be opened up to a wider audience, including Develop clients and local businesses. In 2005 it was also agreed that the Develop/IWO Rutland Challenge should raise money for two charities rather than one, and Macmillan Cancer Relief joined WaterAid as recipients of money raised from the event.
The 2005 Challenge saw a total raised of £4,000, which was split equally between the two charities and cheques for £2,000 each were presented on 4 November 2005. This year, of course, that total needs to be increased! As with last year's event, Whitwell Hotel and Conference Centre will hold an open day for the general public.
This year, on Saturday 2nd September, the Develop/IWO Rutland Challenge is once again open to the widest possible audience and will continue to benefit both Macmillan Cancer Relief and WaterAid. So here's where the gauntlet hits the ground - teams of five people are invited to raise a minimum of £250 in sponsorship for the charities, and a prize is given to the team raising the most money. There is a maximum capacity of 40 teams of five and entries must be received by Friday 18 August 2006 so, if you're up to it, contact Develop soon; there aren't many places left!
Whether you're up to jumping in feet-first as a team member, or you prefer to watch others making complete fools of themselves whilst raising money for two deserving causes, Develop's Whitwell venue is the place to be this September.
