The CINE is an organization internationally renowned for its prestigious non-theatrical film and video competitions. It was founded in 1957 to "present a realistic view of American life, its people, products, and philosophy" through documentary films. Since then, CINE has continued to be a benchmark of excellence. It attracts over 1,000 contest participants each year and has recognized the work of the film industry's prominent personalities. Martin Scorsese, Mel Brooks, Ron Howard, Robert Zemeckis and Steven Spielberg are all CINE awardees.
Today, CINE cultivates the development of "new and emerging talent" through "educational and programmatic services."
As a CINE Special Jury awardee, Drop by Drop is featured on the CINE website as "an example of the outstanding work CINE proudly recognizes." The allotted page displays a video clip, film credits, summary, clips from the program, and other relevant information. Moreover, the award makes Drop by Drop eligible for another distinction, the CINE Masters Series Awards in the category Professional Non-Telecast Non-Fiction Division. It will be given at CINE's annual gala night on April 29, 2009 in Washington, D.C. Please visit the 2009 CINE Special Jury Award Recipients page at http://www.cine.org/special-jury-award.php
Drop by Drop tackles one of the industry's most pernicious, if not much-neglected issues: micro-inequities. These are the small slights, subtle jokes, offhand comments and casual remarks that harass in barely perceptible yet nonetheless devastating ways.
Drop by Drop's success lies in innovative presentation. It personifies the problem in a narrator that literally walks viewers through the sinister psycho-social dynamics of micro-inequities. Using this insider's perspective, the program yields a first-hand look at how the most innocent of gestures, words and body language can be tarnished with malice and discrimination. This in-your-face, no-holds-barred exposition is a powerful way to hammer home the message. It challenges a laid-back approach to diversity, spurs participants to spot and stop micro-inequities and helps cultivate a more respectful and harmonious workplace.
