VIRGINIA BEACH, Va., Sept. 18, 2012 – DuPont Sustainable Solutions announces the release of HazCom: In Sync with GHS, a new training program that explains the Occupational Safety and Health Administration's (OSHA) revised HazCom standard. The standard now incorporates the United Nations' Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals (GHS).
According to OSHA, adopting GHS yields benefits to governments, employers and employees, one of which is the streamlining of hazard communication systems not just across the United States but also throughout the world. HazCom systems vary according to product, country, and government agency.
HazCom: In Sync with GHS helps organizations transition to GHS and comply with OSHA's updated requirements. It shows employees the importance of GHS, defines the classes of hazards and provides examples of each.
The program covers the appropriate labels for shipped containers, including product identifiers such as signal words, hazard statements and precautionary statements. It also describes the pictograms and their referents, and helps employees understand the Safety Data Sheets (SDS). HazCom: In Sync with GHS ends by stressing the importance of employee access to SDS and the responsibility of employers to communicate chemical safety information.
