VIRGINIA BEACH, Va., March 18, 2013 – DuPont Sustainable Solutions announces the release of HazCom for Healthcare: A GHS Overview, a new training program that educates healthcare employees on the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s (OSHA) revised HazCom standard. The standard now incorporates the United Nations’ GloballyHarmonized Systemof Classification and Labeling of Chemicals (GHS).
According to OSHA, adopting GHS benefits governments, employers and employees in several ways, one of which is the streamlining of hazard communication systems throughout the world. HazCom systems vary according to product, country and government agency.
HazCom for Healthcare: A GHS Overview helps healthcare organizations transition to GHS and comply with OSHA’s updated requirements. It shows employees the importance of GHS, defines the classes of hazards and provides examples of each.
The program covers the appropriate labels for shipped containers, including product identifiers such as signal words, hazard statements and precautionary statements. It also describes the pictograms and their referents, and helps healthcare employees understand the Safety Data Sheets (SDS). HazCom for Healthcare: A GHS Overview ends by stressing the importance of employee access to SDS and the responsibility of employers to communicate chemical safety information.
