The nine month Diploma in Digital Publishing course is the UK's first publishing industry's recognised digital qualification and launches in November 2007. It has been developed to help publishers acquire new digital skills and create multi-channel strategies as media consumption habits change and digital and communications technologies evolve.
The Association of Online Publishers' 2007 census saw turnover for members' online operations rise from £344m in 2004 to £575m in 2006. With a further 72% increase predicted for 2007, digital channels are no longer an afterthought for successful publishing companies.
The course has been developed specifically to address the needs of experienced publishers requiring a contextual view of the multi-channel publishing landscape. The Diploma combines theory with practical exercises and delegates will be required to undertake a number of coursework tasks, including publishing and marketing their own website or blog. Diploma delegates will complete the course with the ability to identify and exploit various digital technologies, successfully drive traffic, monitor their audience and commercialise their publishing activities.
Representing 80% of the UK's magazine market by turnover, PPA is a leading provider of training for those employed in the magazine industry through its partnership with the Periodicals Training Council (PTC). E-consultancy is the UK's leading publisher of best practice internet marketing information, and has a community of industry experts providing digital training and thought-leadership events. "A number of publishers have approached us this year to help them train staff in the importance of creating a strategic online presence and an integrated marketing strategy", said Craig Hanna, Training Director at E-consultancy.com. The Diploma in Digital Publishing will cost £6000 with intakes planned four times a year. Delegates will be required to attend ten face-to-face training sessions during the course as well as undertake personal study, including distance learning modules and additional research. Numbers will be strictly limited to ten delegates per cohort to ensure trainers are able to spend time with individuals and meet their needs.
The course can also be delivered to groups within a single organisation, details of which are available on request.
