L&D redundancies up; budgets tightening

Budgets tightening, redundancies: 2023 was a tough year for some in Learning and Development. The UK economy grew by just 0.5% in 2023 and the forecast for 2024 is a slightly better 0.7%. How might that translate for L&D?
The Work and Salary report for our sector is out from recruiter Blue Eskimo. It shows salaries are still increasing but with a decrease in salary satisfaction. Fewer L&D practitioners are changing jobs and more of those that do only move if they already have another job, slightly fewer were promoted in the last year, more were made redundant in 2023 and the number of those still out of work is up. And there's a seismic increase in the number of L&D practitioners that expect L&D budgets will be cut.
All this is coming off a high in L&D recruitment in 2021 and 2022, when L&D teams grew their teams and the jobs market was extremely boyant, so might this be more of a 'rebalancing' and what might 2024 have in store?
