Why Proving ROI Is the Wrong Argument: Infopro Learning Takes the Stage at LEARNING LIVE 2026
Infopro Learning will participate in LEARNING LIVE 2026 (16-17 September, London), with leaders at Stand 15. On 17 September, the company joins a panel discussion arguing L&D should measure workforce capability instead of ROI, featuring CEO Sriraj Mallick, Alex Ball, Leon Boland, and guest speaker Anjana Roy Varghese.
Infopro Learning will participate in LEARNING LIVE 2026, hosted by the Learning and Performance Institute (LPI), from 16-17 September 2026 at Convene 133, Houndsditch, London. Infopro Learning leaders will be present at Stand 15 throughout the conference. As part of the event, the company will also take part in a panel discussion, "The Business Case Against the Business Case: Why Proving ROI Is the Wrong Argument, and What L&D Should Be Measuring Instead," on 17 September from 13:45 to 14:30 BST.
Alex Ball, Vice President, Learning Solutions, will lead the session, bringing over 25 years of experience leading large-scale global learning programs. He will be joined by Infopro Learning CEO Sriraj Mallick, a recognized voice on workforce transformation in the Human+AI era with more than two decades of experience in learning, talent, and capability development, and Leon Boland, Vice President, Learning Consulting, who leads Infopro Learning's EMEA consulting practice and has nearly two decades of experience building learning functions for global organizations. Anjana Roy Varghese, Senior Manager, Talent Development at Riyadh Air, will join as a guest speaker, bringing 15 years of experience across corporate learning, professional development, and education.
The session will argue that the traditional approach to proving the ROI of L&D, one that attempts to draw a direct line between training and business results, just doesn’t work. Instead, the session will propose that L&D focus on measuring workforce capability, a shift the presenters frame as greater accountability, not less.
"This changes the first conversation we have with a client. Instead of starting with a training plan, we start by asking what the business needs people to be able to do that they cannot do today, and design backward from that. It's a harder conversation to have upfront, but it's the one that still holds up months later."- Leon Boland, Vice President, Learning Consulting, Infopro Learning.
Attendees will:
- Examine why the standard ROI argument for L&D keeps failing, and why that is unlikely to change
- See how L&D can reframe what it credibly proves to the business
- Explore practical ways to measure and communicate capability growth
- Hear from senior L&D leaders on how they have shifted the conversation internally
- Leave with a clear argument to bring back to their own stakeholders
The session will introduce a framework built around a single unit of measurement, the skill, tracked through five measures: proficiency delta, behavior adoption, time to proficiency, capability flow, and readiness.
"The place this usually falls apart is the target itself. Organizations agree that capability matters, then default back to counting attendance, course completions and collecting happy sheets because nobody defined what proficient actually looks like for that role."- Alex Ball, Vice President, Learning Solutions, Infopro Learning.
"I've sat in similar sessions for fifteen years, watching this industry try to answer a question it was never going to answer: how do you prove the ROI of training? It isn't a hard problem; it's the wrong one. That's the case I'll be making on the panel at Learning Live."- Sriraj Mallick, CEO, Infopro Learning.
Delegates attending LEARNING LIVE 2026 can meet Infopro Learning's leadership team at Stand 15 or join the panel discussion on 17 September.
