Learning Nexus launches new Asbestos Awareness course into their Health and Safety range
Learning Nexus, a leading e-learning solutions provider in the UK, have released an Asbestos Awareness course into their Health and Safety range to make sure non-licensed contractors and workers know how to prepare for potential asbestos exposure.
Asbestos became increasingly popular among manufacturers and builders in the late 19th century because of its sound absorption, average tensile strength, and its resistance to heat and electrical or chemical damage. However, nowadays this has created a somewhat dangerous situation with potential exposure to asbestos on construction sites, or building refurbishments.
Although the risk of significant health issues isn't as rife as it would have been in the 20th century, it is still imperative to be aware of what precautions need to be taken, as a non-licensed contractor/worker, if one comes into contact with the substance.
Also, as an organisation, it is very important to know the legal obligations in case of an asbestos problem, to avoid significant fines, such as the recent Arcadia debacle where construction workers were exposed to potentially dangerous asbestos fibres at a Topshop store in Liverpool (more info), or Nottingham City Council being fined £30,000 for failing to properly manage asbestos at a depot in the city (more info).
Learning Nexus have created this course to create an awareness about what asbestos is, where it is found and the danger that it presents, as well as to make sure safe working procedures are adhered to.
