Why supporting modern workplace learning requires more than an LMS

Telford, UKLearning NewsPebblePad

Trailblazing personal learning technology specialists, PebblePad, will be teaming up with The Institute of Swimming’s, Tanya Kesterton, and modern workplace learning guru, Jane Hart, at Learning Technologies 2018. In two must-attend seminars, they'll discuss modern workplace learning and why the LMS isn’t best placed to support it.

The shift in employee learning habits is prompting rethinks in many L&D departments as organisations look for innovative ways to keep their people up to date and support a contingent workforce.

Jane Hart, Founder of the Centre for Learning and Performance Technologies, who will be delivering a seminar with PebblePad at this year’s Learning Technologies conference, comments: “Employees no longer rely on being trained by their company or taking online courses to move forward, but rather they recognise that they learn in many different ways for and at work - I call this new way of learning for and at work – Modern Professional Learning.”

However, this new culture of anytime, anywhere learning requires organisations to do things differently and do different things, a view fully supported by Tanya Kesterton, Learning Solutions Manager at The Institute of Swimming. Tanya, who is also delivering an LT18 seminar, will discuss how PebblePad allows the institute to deliver innovative, learner centred blended learning without the need for an LMS.

Shane Sutherland, CEO and Chief Mischief Maker at PebblePad, believes this year’s conference is going to be even better than the 2017 event: “We are delighted to be teaming up with Jane and Tanya at Learning Technologies 2018. Last year’s event was our first time exhibiting at Learning Technologies and we were somewhat overwhelmed by the number of people we spoke to who completely bought into our ethos.”

"It’s clear that many organisations are still grappling with how to support this new era of employee-led learning. We know it presents significant challenges for the traditional LMS, which tends to remain focused on courses and content rather than learners and learning.”

“Our technology supports the multitude of ways users learn - online, offline, anytime, anywhere, through interactions with peers and day-to-day experiences. Therefore, it doesn't come as a surprise that we are now seeing an increasing number of organisations look to us to help them support modern workplace learning.”
