IITT to Become the Learning and Performance Institute

Coventry, UKLearning NewsLPI (Learning and Performance Institute)

More than a name change, the new Institute will provide a true representation of workplace learning professionals

On Wednesday 14th September 2011, the Institute of IT Training (IITT) will complete a planned name change to become the Learning and Performance Institute. The change of name is thought to better reflect the Institute’s growing membership which is divided across a number of different learning sectors.

The newly entitled Learning and Performance Institute already holds over 3,000 individual members and accredits hundreds of learning organisations worldwide including accreditations throughout Europe, North America, Africa and Asia.

The impending name change is part of the Institute’s strategy grow its global network of members, with a focus on the workplace learning sector. The new branding, which promotes the correlation between learning and organisational performance, is expected to resonate with workplace learning professionals whose development needs and working environments differ greatly from those in the academic sector.

According to IITT, Managing Director, Edmund Monk the re-brand is much more than a name change. He said: “For IITT members, becoming the Learning and Performance Institute is about being part of a body which is transforming itself to meet the needs of today’s learning professional.

“The industry is constantly changing, and in the midst of the current economic climate, the speed of this change has never been greater. As an Institute it’s our job to keep one step ahead and bring our members along with us – that’s what we intend to do.

“To date, learning professionals and trainers have been faced with a choice of Institute’s which try, without much success, to cater for both the workplace and academic sector, or are far too HR focused. Regrettably, based on the feedback we’ve received, all seem to have fallen short of being truly representative of L&D as a whole.

“As such, I think those engaged in L&D would jump at the chance to be part of a younger, pro-active membership body of like minded trainers and learning professionals, and I believe the Learning and Performance Institute can be exactly that.”

The official launch of the Learning and Performance Institute will take place at the LEARNING LIVE event in Birmingham on the 14th September. For further information about the new Institute e-mail: info@iitt.org.uk. For access to LEARNING LIVE visit www.learning-live.com
