LPI Research Highlights Gulf in Spending between Public and Private Sector Training Departments
A third of private sector training departments expect budgets to increase, whilst almost half of public sector departments expect more cuts
The results are taken from the Learning Survey report commissioned by The Learning and Performance Institute (LPI). Over 500 L&D professionals within the UK took part in the survey in January 2012. The results were revealed at the Institute’s Learning Directors Network meeting which took place in London on 21 March 2012.
According to the results of the survey, 31% of private sector training departments expect budgets to increase in 2012 compared to 2011 - with only 18% forecasting a drop in budget. In contrast 19% of public sector departments reported an increase versus an overwhelming 48% predicting further cuts to spending.
David Pardo, Managing Director, Pardo Fox Ltd who led the Learning Survey research highlighted his concerns on the impact of these cuts at a ground level. He said: “The balance for 2012 is again positive for the private sector but strongly negative for the public sector. Notwithstanding improved efficiency and technological innovation, the compound effect of four successive years of drastic cost-cutting must inevitably have an impact on the competences, skill levels and human capital development of the public sector.”
